Styrofoam Plate Plaster Art
Here’s a craft project that is great for kids and would make an excellent and easy project for a classroom setting or group.
Supplies you’ll need for this project:
- Plaster of Paris
- Styrofoam Plate
- Pencil
- Acrylic Paint
Making Your Mold
To make your styrofoam plate mold, use a pencil and draw your desired design on the plate. Make sure you press the pencil hard enough into the styrofoam to leave an impression but not so hard that you puncture the plate.
Once you have made your mold, you are ready to mix and pour the plaster. For plaster mixing tips, check out this video. Once you have mixed your plaster, pour into your plate mold. You may want to use a spoon to make the plaster level. Gently tap your plate mold to release any air bubbles in your plaster of Paris. Allow your plaster to dry for at least 45 minutes before removing from the mold.
Let your casted art dry for 24 hours before painting or adding any other embellishments such as glitter, pom-poms, or plastic jewels.
